Borders Motocross Club Round 3 Report
Borders Motocross Club held round three of its five round club championship, at Duns in the Scottish Borders. The track is being prepared for the Maxxis next month, and looked fantastic – despite being a little soaked from the heavy rain the night before the meeting, and the showers which continued through the day. The rain didn't put off many of the entrants, and the day was set for a fun days racing ahead.
The organisers decided it would be best to let the adults loose on the track first. The adult class was looking to be dominated again by Graham Blacklock, who took both wins in the first two races but a DNF in the third race, meant he dropped down the points. Dale McAulay took the third race win, and two second places from the first two races meant he took the overall for the day. Jason Martin took third overall with consistent riding in the wet conditions.
The Over 35's were raced alongside the adults class, Mark Dempsey took the overall for them, with three wins. Paul White was second, and Stuart Foster took the third spot.
The normal programme followed for the rest of the day, and the auto's were next to tackle muddy and wet circuit. Scott Russell showed some impressive riding given the conditions, and took the win in all three races. Jordan Gill finished second, and also took second in two of the three races. Lyle Crothers had the third overall.
Elaine MacEachern showed the boys how its done in the 65cc class, opening up some huge gaps, as much as 40 seconds, between her and the rest of the class. She took three straight race wins and the overall. Aaron MacDonald and Ryan Archibald rode consistently throughout the day, and took second and third consecutively.
The small wheel 85cc class was won by Greg Queen – who took all three race wins. Jack Taylor, Robbie Fifer and Connor Curran was left to battle for second and third places. Jack Taylor took most points, with two second place finishes, to take the second place. However, after all three races, Robbie Fifer and Connor Curran were tied on points, but a second place in the first race meant Fifer would take the third place.
The 85cc big wheel class was won by Stuart Robertson, who opened up comfortable gaps and rode consistently, taking three race wins. Sean Williamson dropped points in the second race, but picked up enough points in the third race to pip Andrew McNicoll to the second place, McNicoll took third.
In the youth 125cc class, Stewart Treloar took the overall with two race wins, pulling a near 30 second lead over second placed Harry Cooper in the third race. Cooper took the first race win, but had to settle for second place overall. Scott Foote rode consistently in all three races, taking three third places, and the third overall.
The youth 250F class had a poor turnout, with only two riders, and was run along side the youth 125cc class. Bob Jack took two of the race wins, to get the overall. Dylan Annand took the other race win, and the runner-up position.
The British Maxxis Round 7 heads to Duns on the 23rd of August. Borders Motocross Club holds Round 4 of its club championship on September 13th.
